KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 4 November 2024 – In a continued effort to power Malaysians’ everyday journey with clean energy, Shell Malaysia Ltd (“Shell”) is partnering with Progressture Power Sdn Bhd (“Progressture Solar”) to install up to 20 MWp of solar capacity across its retail stations nationwide. This initiative reinforces Shell’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, to deliver sustainable energy solutions to communities across Malaysia.
Shell plans to install up to 20 MWp of solar capacity on the roofs of more than 600 stations as part of its Powering Progress strategy. This initiative aims to cut Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, using 2016 as the baseline year. The solar installation is expected to generate up to 25,550 MWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to powering up to 7,392 households each year.
As a leading Net-Zero Partner, Progressture Solar will invest in Shell’s retail network through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), owning and operating the solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across Shell’s retail stations. These renewable energy assets are anticipated to contribute up to 19,366 tonnes of carbon emissions reduction yearly. Progressture Solar’s expertise in renewable energy will significantly accelerate the carbon footprint reduction of Shell’s mobility operations.
“This partnership with Shell underscores the essential role clean energy must play in decarbonising the energy sector. By aligning our strengths and committing to Net Zero by 2050, we are solidifying the standard for decarbonisation in this industry. As a leading clean energy provider in Malaysia, we are pleased to work alongside Shell in setting a new benchmark for sustainability and advancing the nation’s green energy transition,” stated Ng Yew Weng, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Progressture Solar.
“At Shell, we are focused on integrating sustainability into our core business strategy. This commitment drives us to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050, delivering value not only to our shareholders but also to our customers and society at large. By the end of 2025, our goal is for all of Shell’s retail stations across Malaysia to be powered by the sun,” said Seow Lee Ming, General Manager (GM) Mobility for Shell Malaysia and Singapore.
